News Release!!!
KEA's 3rd Annual, Fall Horse Health Seminar Attended By Over 165 Horse Enthusiasts From A Four-County Area!
Gary A. Garcia of Keystone Equine Associates, P.A. is pleased to report that their most successful annual fall equine health seminar entitled "A Colic Symposium: A Panel Discussion Regarding the Prevention, Diagnosis and Treatment of Colic In the Horse" was held on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. in the Palm Room at Seven Springs Golf & Country Club, Inc. located at 3535 Trophy Blvd.
Attendees enjoyed an informative discussion featuring the complex and captivating subject of colic presented by a distinguished panel of experts - Kelly R. Vineyard, Ph.D., Equine Nutritionist with Purina Mills, LLC, Anne J. Schwartz, DVM, DACVS with Tri-State Equine Surgical Specialists, LLC as well as Dr. Garcia himself. The format provided a twist compared to previous years in that it was an open forum based on questions posed by the audience. The discussion was eloquently moderated by KEA's dear friend, David Boromei with Butler-Schein Animal Health. Guests gnoshed on delectable edibles provided by the country club while over forty equestrians were the excited recipients of a myriad of door prizes provided by the event's generous sponsors.
This is what some of the attendees said about the event:
"Just wanted to say that I think you did a GREAT job on planning the seminar. It was very enjoyable! I think the panel idea worked really well too. Thanks for having these, I'm sure that everyone appreciates it." - M.N.
"This (format) is like a (group of equine professionals having) fireside chat..." - L.M.

Monthly "Horse Bits:"
*Ensure that your horse is eating high-quality hay/pasture on a daily basis in an amount equal to approximately 2% of their body weight.
*Ensure that your horse is drinking water on a regular basis. This does not always occur even though the weather is extremely warm. In order to prevent colic, choking and numerous other gastrointestinal issues, we strongly encourage a protocol of balanced electrolytes in your horse's feed on a daily basis - as little as 1/2 to 1 ounce is effective. This product may soon be purchased on our NEW "Pharm-Meds To Go!" link.
*With our cooler winter months just around the corner (believe it or not), this time of year provides the optimum weather for your equine's teeth to be floated. Ask Dr. Garcia to check your horse's teeth for wear at least once every year (during your fall 6-month vaccination appointment is an opportune time). There is no charge for this examination and he can show you how to improve your horse's nutritional intake as well as his performance.
*Flies and mosquitoes are a year-round issue amongst mid-Florida's unpredictable, seasonal climates. Ask us about our 1-gallon sized Horseman's Dream Flygone 7000 fly spray. It is a citronella and oil-based product that stays on your horse's skin during our climate's rainy days. This is a very popular item with some of our clients who have tried numerous other mosquito/fly prevention products. Due to Florida's mosquito/flying insect population, most keep this product on hand year-round. In most cases and for your convenience, Dr. Garcia carries gallons of this product on his truck or it can be picked-up from our office. No on-line shipping fees or sales tax!
*Does your horse seem to be itching uncontrollably? Is your horse suffering from tail-rubbing, neck-rubbing or an unsightly skin disease? Ask us about a RAST (radioallergosorbent test) test which measures specific allergic antibodies in your horse's blood. We can determine whether (s)he is allergic to certain feeds, plants, insects and/or pollens. We suggest this test if conventional skin therapy has not solved your problem.
